Your privacy matters to us. This page explains what data the Biosphere Navigator collects, how it is used, and your choices. We built this tool to be fun, private, and transparent.
What we collect
No personal data is collected, stored, or shared. The Biosphere Navigator runs entirely in your browser. We do not use cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics that identify you.
- Game state — your current round, score, and pins are kept only in your browser’s memory and are cleared when you close the tab.
- Challenge links — when you share a challenge, the link contains an encoded snapshot of the reserve order and your score. This data is not stored on any server; it is encoded directly in the URL and decoded locally by your friend’s browser.
- Theme preference — your light/dark theme choice is saved in your browser’s local storage, solely to remember your preference across visits.
How we use data
We use the minimal browser-side data only to:
- Run the game logic and display the map.
- Generate shareable challenge links that contain only the necessary game parameters.
- Remember your theme preference.
We never sell, rent, or transfer any data to third parties.
Third-party services
The map tiles are provided by CARTO and OpenStreetMap. These services may collect anonymized usage data according to their own privacy policies. We do not control their data practices.
We also use Google Fonts (Fraunces, Inter, etc.) which may log standard web request data. We serve them via fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com.
Your choices
- Clear your data — close the tab or clear your browser’s local storage and session data to remove all game state.
- Do Not Track — we respect browser DNT signals and do not track you across sites.
- Theme — you can toggle the theme at any time; your preference is stored locally.
Children’s privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from minors.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page occasionally. Any changes will be posted here with an updated date. We encourage you to review it periodically.
